Bass Fishing!

Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass Fishing

Bass are the most sought out game fish. Its appeal spans cultures, age groups and genders. Bass fishing is the heart of a lot of anglers everywhere. If you look at nascar and you can see just how papular Bass Fishing is among the drivers.

Bass are so aggressive and have so much agility they can chase down and catch most of thier favorite foods. When Bass are feeding they are most easily caught but a Bass fishermen can entice a Bass to strike an anglers bait for reasons other than hunger. Bass are predatory by nature and when a bait comes into there world they will strike. If it moves and the Bass can get it into thier large mouth its history.

Techniques for Largemouth Bass:

SPRING
Top Baits: Spinnerbaits,Plasic Worms and Crankbaits. Bass are moving to shallow water for warmer water and spawing and for a good food source. Try shallow-water flippin on cloudy days and in murky water.

SUMMER
Topbaits: Plastic worms,Jigs and Crankbaits. Fish shallow in the cooler morning and afternoon and fish deeper water in the heat of the day. Largemouth Bass also feed at night in the summer do to the heat.
Deep water fishing I found a drop shot rig works quite well.

FALL
Topbaits: Spoons,Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits. Fish shallow to med depth in the evenings and mornings and as the Bass move deep move to structure and us spoons or jigs.

WINTER
Topbaits: Pork baits,Plastic Worms and Jigs. Shallow fish in the mornings and as the sun rises move deeper and remember in cold weather the Bass are not as active,so move your bait in a slow, easy to catch manner and fish deep cover and structure.

Have you ever fished in Maine?

If you've never fished in Maine but are seriously considering it, here are some common questions that may come up:

Where are the best places to fish in Maine?
There are quite a few places to go fishing in Maine. These are a few I visit frequently: Reed State Park and Pompum State Park. The reason I go here is for the Striper Fishing. A striper fish is a form of bass fish that is really good eating. The general size of a striper fish that I catch in these parks are 12 to 18 inches long. These fish are known as "schoolies". "Keepers" are 20-26 inches long. It's obvious why they're called "keepers." They can weigh from 3-20 pounds. This year they weren't really heavy but on average they are 3 to 12 pounds. Anything over 40 inches is a "Damn Big Fish!" In the state of Maine you're only allowed to keep one fish per day to save the Striper population.

What type of fish can you catch in Maine?
Striper, Blue, Tuna, Cod, Halibut: these are some that come to mind. My favorite to eat is the striper for sure. It's a heavy fish, easy to fillet, and easy to cook.

Is Maine known for it's fishing?
Maine's not really known for it's fishing as far as I know. There are lots of sea fisherman and fly fisherman but I'm going to look in to this more.

What are the best fishing techniques to use when fishing in Maine?
Deep Sea Fishing is common. With this technique you use jigging - a 16-24 oz. jig. The name will come to me later. Fly fishing is also really common for trout, rainbow, brown and lake trout are most common here. Spinners are pretty common too but I don't do too much lake fishing. Top water plugs and crank bates are also techniques I use.

There are lots of small mouth bass in Maine. I love fishing and look forward to sharing more information in the near future. Visit www.fishingzoo.com for more information.
